That’s great Carol - Hackney is much nicer now than it was then. Shoreditch and Hoxton are now home to the trendiest graphic desingers and creative agencies in London and Hackney (whilst still the neighbourhood of choice for gun crime) is really on the up!

Wow. I spent some time in Hackney in the mid-eighties, and it was not cool-cool, nerd-cool or arty cool. It was just kinda … depressing. Glad to hear it’s improved.

And, yes, I’ve gathered from the front lines of fashion — which for me means my thirteen-year-old daughter — that nerdiness is “in.”
